After School Surf Program

Surf Camp's After School Surfing Program provides an opportunity for a limited number of 6th, 7th and 8th graders from nearby middle schools to gain extensive surf experience through the early Fall surf season in Southern Maine.

Extend The Surf Experience

Our After School Surfing Program, introduced in 2014, allows those former Surf Camp participants interested in more seriously pursuing their interest in surfing an opportunity to gain considerable experience in the Fall. Our small group of 6 to 9 participants will surf after school every Monday and Wednesday for 5-weeks, allowing everyone to gain invaluable experience in a variety of surf conditions.

After school surfing

Program participants will be picked up directly from school every Monday and Wednesday. We'll gear up at Scarborough Beach and surf until pick-up at 5pm.

Program Overview

Dates and Times
Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30 - 5:00pm, total of 10 sessions through early October.

Age Range
6th, 7th and 8th graders with previous experience at Surf Camp.

Schools
We will provide pick-up at selected local middle/high schools. If you are interested, fill out the Prebook Application so that we can try and arrange a pickup at your school. Participants need to be picked up by their parents at Scarborough Beach at 5pm.

Number of Available Spaces
Minimum of 8, max of 12.

Gear
We have a huge variety of surfboards for participants to use, including longboards and shortboards. We can also store participants boards in our trailer at the beach. We will have 3/2mm wetsuits available for everyone, although some participants may choose to purchase a thicker wetsuit as the program progresses.

Why Surfing?

Traditional school sports aren't for everyone. While many athletic programs encourage fierce competitiveness, surfing teaches humility and perseverance in addition to developing independence, confidence, and awareness about our natural environment.

Surfing is also a life-long pursuit that can accompany us long past high school and college, while also providing the ultimate full body workout. Practicing surfing strengthens core muscles, improves agility, and provides intense periods of cardio-vascular exercise. Overall, surfing can form the centerpiece of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

As surfers, we learn to look at the world in a totally different way while chasing the always-elusive "perfect wave" just around the next bend on the map. Our After School Surfing Program will give participants the experience they need to pursue surfing on their own in a safe and responsible manner for many years to come.
